The Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress (GFC) returns from September 10–12, 2025, bringing together over 100 expert speakers, leading innovators, and global stakeholders for a focused and energizing program in Dornbirn, Austria. As global challenges mount—from decarbonization pressures to shifting markets—this year’s congress reaffirms its role as a key platform for forward-looking solutions and collaborative progress.
With nearly 200 submitted presentations and growing multi-sector participation, the congress underscores the industry’s drive to innovate and adapt. The program spans 2.5 days, covering four central themes: Work & Protective Wear / Defence, Carbon Stewardship (from biomass to carbon capture), and Fiber Innovations from production to application. Short expert inputs followed by interactive panel Q&As encourage open knowledge exchange and fast learning.
This year’s venue concept has been rethought to support active dialogue and exploration. Modular, open design built with natural materials replaces traditional exhibition booths, creating an experience zone that fosters informal networking and deeper engagement. “Dornbirn GFC brings together a truly global community—researchers, innovators, and industry leaders from across continents. By creating the right environment for open exchange and collaboration, we’re accelerating the development and scale-up of fiber innovations worldwide.” Says Matthias Gluth, Managing Director, Austrian Fiber Institute.
Keynote speakers include Dr. Ingrid Sebald, Chief Technology Officer of TESA, on product circularity; Prof. Dr. Franz Josef Radermacher on climate pathways that work; and a CEO panel titled “Camouflage or Climate?” exploring the tension between innovation and greenwashing.
Digital tools such as live polls and anonymous audience Q&A further open the floor—making participation more dynamic and inclusive.
Robert van de Kerkhof, President of the Austrian Fiber Institute: “Our industry is at a crossroads. The urgency to decarbonize, rethink systems, and deliver scalable circular solutions has never been higher. But as Churchill said, ‘Never let a good crisis go to waste.’ – “At Dornbirn GFC 2025, we’re not just reflecting on the challenges—we’re spotlighting the solutions. This congress is a call to action for those ready to move from intent to impact.”
Among the highlights:
- a dedicated REHUBS session showcasing fiber-to-fiber recycling strategies and infrastructure progress
- the Dornbirn GFC Innovation Award, where startups pitch live to jury and audience,
- the launch of MICRO|FORCE, a multi-stakeholder initiative tackling microplastic pollution in partnership with TU Crete, TU Wien, and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
64th Dornbirn GFC & 5th Innovation Days takes place from September 10–12 in Dornbirn, Austria.
