India has replaced China as Italian textile machinery’s top export destination. In 2025, exports of Italian textile machinery reached €176 million, a surge of 28% compared to 2024.
This was informed by Marco Salvadè, President at the annual general meeting of ACIMIT, which is an association of Italian textile machinery manufacturers.
In 2025, domestic production in the textile machinery sector stood at approximately €1.94 billion, recording a 9% decrease compared to the previous year.
Exports also suffered a contraction, falling by 8% to a total value of €1.67 billion. On the domestic front, sales amounted to €266 million, also down 14%.
The decline in Italian exports affected numerous traditional target markets, including North America and Turkey, the latter experiencing a particularly difficult trend.
However, Asia confirmed its position as the primary destination, absorbing 40% of total exports or €667 million, followed by the European Union with 24% and other countries with 11%.
In terms of product categories, finishing and dyeing machinery overseas accounted for 33% of the total, followed by accessories with 20% and spinning machinery with 15%.
