Prestige Denim Bets on Egypt to Reach European, Middle Eastern Buyers

Date:

Prestige Denim Mills from India has committed US $20 million to set up an integrated denim-fabric facility in Egypt’s West Qantara Industrial Zone, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The project is the company’s first manufacturing investment in the zone and adds another export-focused textile operation to Egypt’s growing industrial cluster.

Spanning a 100,000-square-metre site, the plant will combine weaving, dyeing and finishing in one operation.

Planned annual output is 20 million metres of denim fabric, with roughly 1,000 direct jobs expected. About 70% of production will be exported, with the rest feeding Egypt’s domestic textile and apparel sector.

Consolidating production stages should give the manufacturer firmer control over fabric quality, shade consistency, lead times and product development than a fragmented setup would allow.

For buyers, the plant could serve as a new regional source of finished denim fabric closer to garment-making hubs in Europe and the Middle East.

SCZONE says cumulative investment in textile and ready-made garment projects in West Qantara has now topped $1 billion.

Prestige joins manufacturers from across Asia and Europe already using Egypt as a production and export platform.

Location underpins much of the appeal. Egypt sits along the Suez Canal logistics corridor and offers short shipping routes to Europe.

The EU-Egypt Association Agreement, in force since 2004, created a free-trade area by removing tariffs on qualifying industrial goods, subject to applicable rules of origin.

In 2025, the EU remained Egypt’s largest trading partner, absorbing 27.7% of its exports.
