Bangladesh apparel exports fall 1.92% in July but rebound 15% from June

Date:

Bangladesh’s garment exports began the new fiscal with shipments in July falling 1.92% year on year to US $3.88 billion, against $3.96 billion recorded during July 2025.

By category, knitted garments slipped 0.90% to $2,150.96 million in July 2026, while woven apparel suffered a steeper decline of 3.16% to reach $1,727.66 million, according to data of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Nonetheless, apparel exports demonstrated considerable sequential strength, with overseas shipment values climbing 14.73% against June’s $3.38 billion.

Subdued demand across established markets—including Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Canada weighed on exports of clothing.

Italy emerged as the standout performer, with export value to that market rising 31.91% from a year ago month to touch $142.18 million.

The United States held its position as the single most significant export destination, with shipment values remaining largely flat at $795.79 million, a marginal 0.18% annual decline.

Collectively, the European Union saw shipments contract by 2.45% year-on-year to settle at $1.92 billion, dragged down by declines in Germany and France at 2.84% and 4.44%, respectively.

Despite the encouraging sequential rebound, sector figures have flagged persistent domestic operational challenges that could jeopardise the industry’s global standing and its ability to meet delivery commitments.
