India eyes larger share of Jordan’s $2 billion textile & garment imports

Date:

New Delhi hosted a senior Jordanian delegation headed by Zaher Al Qatarneh, Secretary-General at the Ministry of Investment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

He held talks with Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary (Textiles) in the Government of India, at the Ministry of Textiles, with the aim of identifying ways to deepen two-way collaboration across the textiles and apparel sector.

Accompanying Mr Al Qatarneh were Yousef Abdelghani, Jordan’s Ambassador to India, Haya Iman, Director of Investment Promotion, and Noor Murad, Investment Promotion Officer.

Representing the Indian side were senior figures from the Ministry of Textiles and the Ministry of External Affairs, joined by several representatives of the textile industry.

Talks centred on growing two-way trade, sourcing, investment and commercial tie-ups, including joint ventures between companies in the two countries.

Jordan imported roughly US $2 billion of textiles and apparel from global suppliers in 2025. Indian shipments to the kingdom were valued at about $48 million, a 2.4% share that places India fourth among Jordan’s suppliers.

Indian officials pointed to scope for closer collaboration in garments, fabrics, technical textiles, cotton products and made-ups, with room for more sourcing, investment and industry alliances in each of these categories.

Both delegations also examined ways to build stronger links between prominent Indian and Jordanian fashion, design and textile institutes.

Proposals covered student and faculty exchanges, design innovation and joint work on AI-driven fashion forecasting.

Participants further considered reviving the existing institutional framework, so that engagement on the agreed areas of cooperation can be structured, continuous and properly followed up.

The meeting ended on an upbeat note, with each side committing to continue bilateral dialogue and advance the cooperation areas outlined during the discussions.
