Indian textile ministry delegation visits Italy seeking deeper collaboration

Date:

India and Italy are seeking deeper collaboration in fabrics, clothing, machinery, innovation and sustainability which included a visit by an Indian delegation to the Italian textile hub of Biella.

The delegation is headed by Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary at India’s Ministry of Textiles. Its agenda centred on building stronger industry partnerships, nurturing innovation and mapping out new routes for two-way cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Textiles’ official LinkedIn page, among various cities, the group toured Biella, a textile hub renowned for quality fabrics, sophisticated production capability and artisanal skills.

A business roundtable, hosted jointly with Biella’s Chamber of Commerce, drew together prominent textile companies from the Piedmont region.

Talks focused on possible tie-ups spanning fabrics, apparel, machinery, innovation and sustainability.

Presentations on the strengths of both the Biellese and Indian industries gave participants a snapshot of openings for greater trade, investment and industrial collaboration.

Delegates also used the session to promote Bharat Tex 2027, pointing to the show’s widening scale, rising participation and global standing as a meeting point for the international textile and clothing sector.

The party additionally visited MagnoLab, a collaborative network for textile innovation, to gain insight into progress in research, materials development, advanced production methods and industry-driven innovation.

The visit stressed how cooperation along the entire value chain underpins experimentation, the exchange of know-how and the creation of solutions fit for the future.

Taken together, the meetings pointed to scope for India and Italy to pool their respective strengths in manufacturing, craftsmanship, materials, technology and design.

They also discussed prospects to deepen partnerships between industry and academia, and to open up new prospects for designers, researchers and producers.

The mission mirrors a growing emphasis on cross-border cooperation to drive textile innovation, encourage sustainable production and forge closer links within the worldwide textile ecosystem.
