Recently, TextilesResources.com gladly had an opportunity to interact with Smt. Darshana Jardosh, Honorable Union State Minister of Textiles, Government of India, at the mega textile show Bharat Tex 2024. During an interview session, she elaborated on various schemes by the Government of India to promote and scale-up the textile industry along with handloom and handicraft. She emphasized Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat Scheme (Self-reliant India Mission), the 5F Vision of PM Shri Modi, achievements during the previous ten years, Vision 2047 Viksit Bharat (2047 Developed India), PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2024, PM Mitra Park Scheme, G20 Summit, next edition of Bharat Tex show, achievements of Ministry of Textiles during previous ten years and many more, you can watch the full video here. The Make in India initiative was launched by Prime Minister Shri Modi in September 2014 as part of a wider set of nation-building initiatives, it represents a complete change of the government’s mindset – a shift from issuing authority to a business partner, in keeping with Prime Minister’s tenet of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’. Make in India was devised to transform India into a global design and manufacturing hub, opening investment doors, and multiple enterprises are adopting its mantra.
Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan (self-reliant India) is the vision of a new India envisaged by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, was launched on 12th May 2020, the aim is to make the country and its citizens independent and self-reliant in all senses. A special economic and comprehensive package of INR 20 lakh crores was announced to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Economy, Infrastructure, System, Vibrant Demography, and Demand are the five pillars of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
5F vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Modi includes Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion, Fashion to Foreign. It will help further the growth and contribution of the textile sector in the economy of India, it has a crucial role to play in creating large-scale employment and making India a developed country (Viksit Bharat) by 2047. The textiles sector has special importance as it is linked to the four priority areas of the government in providing jobs and opportunities for the poor, the farmers, the youth, and the empowerment of women. Recently held textile mega show Bharat Tex 2024 was also on the theme of 5F Vision.
PM Shri Modi’s campaign Vocal for Local is a massive hit and recently he further enhanced it as “Vocal for local but also taking local to global”. The vocal for local campaign urges Indians to back native products, it urges citizens to prioritize and advocate for goods produced locally thereby strengthening and empowering domestic industries.
Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme is connected with India’s manufacturing capabilities and exports – the Government has approved the introduction of PLI Scheme in ten sectors – Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery, Electronic/Technology Products, Automobiles & Auto Components, Pharmaceuticals drugs, Telecom & Networking products, Textile Products – MMF (Man Made Fibres) segment and Technical textiles, Food Products, High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules, White Goods (ACs and LED) and Specialty Steel. With PLI Schemes for textiles, India is poised to regain its dominance in the Global textile trade. It will help create additional employment of over 7.5 lakh people directly and several lakhs for supporting activities. Incentives worth INR 10683 crore will be provided to the industry over five years. It is expected that this scheme will result in a fresh investment of above INR 19000 crore and an additional production turnover of over INR 3 lakh crore in five years. Higher priority for investment in aspirational districts and tier 3/4 towns.
PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) Parks Scheme is inspired by the 5F vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister – Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign. The government has approved the setting up of 7 parks with a total outlay of INR 4445 crore in 5 years. PM MITRA will offer an opportunity to create an integrated textiles value chain right from spinning, weaving, processing/dyeing and printing to garment manufacturing a one location. It is intended to generate more than 1 lakh direct and 2 lakh indirect employment per park.
Apart from the elaborate above, she also explained other schemes as well such as the Vishwakarma Scheme, Start-up India, vocal for Khadi/Jute/Silk and more. In total, the goal is to further scale up the textile industry of India and make it a powerhouse, and contribute more to a $ 5 trillion economy.
The next edition of Bharat Tex – a mega textile trade show is scheduled for March 2025.
