Scopes and Opportunities in Fitness Apparel Segment


Fitness Apparel or Sports Wear or Gym Apparel or Active Wear Workout Wear etc. all these titles represent the huge and fastest expanding industry that covers all types of fitness/sports apparels including must talked Yoga wear. Yoga becomes very popular in this decade and is growing rapidly and hence yoga wear and gears are in a huge demand. I shall write a separate article about yoga wear and gears in a separate article, because it is a large info that I have to cover.

The Global Fitness Apparel market (or Gym Apparel Market or Activewear Market) size was around US$ 200 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach around US$ 300 billion by the end of 2030. The growth of the market is due to the increasing awareness of fitness and number of gym gym/sports-going population. Adding to it, although Covid 19 outbreak has impacted negatively on the market due to several travel and other restriction in recent past years, but the outbreak has also increased the importance and acceptance of fitness (physically and mentally), physical exercise or sports or yoga or meditation etc. is now becomes a part of our daily life, that keeps us healthy and fit and it led to willingly spending more on gym wear with better features including temperature control, moisture management, comfort, safety, therefore it’s a promising and potential market.

The fitness or gym apparel are made out of special breathable fabric or material that helps in maintaining the body temperature for a pleasant experience during exercise or sports practice or game. Nylon, Polyester, cotton, polypropylene etc. are part of fabric to make it stretchable, smooth but yet strength.  One of the major features of gym or fitness apparel is innovation, in recent years there are so many new features introduced in this category, smart nanotechnology, inbuilt app, anti-germs coating, water and wind resistance finishing, recycled plastics usage in fabric, super stretched etc. are the latest innovations. If you compare the gender wise segments, men segment is higher comparing to women, children and unisex segments.

Key players such as Nike, New Balance, Puma, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear Company, Ralph Lauren, Fila, Umbro, Asics, Gymshark, Rhone Group, Reebok, Under Armour and more. And there are key players in domestic market as well such as Shiv Naresh, HRX by Hrithik Roshan, Proline, Performax, Nivia, Dida, Alcis and more in India. These brands do have their sores in various global and local places and are also available in online/e-commerce platforms including their own market places. The global market is divided between North America, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East & Africa and South America, out of these, North America comes first with share of 41% followed by Europe and Asia, during 2023-2032, Asia Pacific is expected to grow significantly in near future.

This segment is growing rapidly and we will see new features and innovations in the products.
