In the month of May 2026, Brazil continued to be the top supplier of cotton to China which totaled 65.1 kilo tons (KT), up by 52 KT in May 2025, but down 29 KT from April 2026. Cotton imports from Brazil accounted for or 58% of overall cotton imports.
According to data from Chinese Customs, China cotton imports totaled 112.8 KT in May 2026, an increase of 78.3 KT year-on-year, but a decrease of 52.5 KT from its earlier month
In the month under review, cotton imports from the US reached 24.9 KT or accounted for 22% of total cotton imports, growing by 17 KT from a year ago month, but remained the same when compared with April 2026.
Chinese cotton imports amounted to 824.9 KT in the first five months of 2026, up 90.7% or 392.3 KT when compared with the same period of 2025.
