China’s yarn exports slip again as Vietnam steals ground from Pakistan

Date:

China exported 15,900 tonnes of cotton yarn in June 2026, a fall of 5.99% against June last year and 8.07% down on its previous month.

“In the first six months of 2026, exports of cotton yarn touched 97,200 tonnes, down 14.95% versus the first six months of 2025,” Chinese customs data informed.

On the destinations front, Pakistan held onto top spot in June, taking 28.8% of total shipments, but its slice of the cotton yarn export pie has been cut sharply, down 16.87% year on year.

Vietnam and Bangladesh between them made up 33.02% of exports, and together with Pakistan the trio took roughly 9,000 tonnes, or 56.44% of all cotton yarn exported by China.

The picture varied wildly by various buying countries in June 2026. Exports to Pakistan slumped 40.71% year-on-year, while Bangladesh fell 32.73%.

Vietnam, by contrast, jumped 67.2%, Hong Kong soared 241.75%, and Cambodia edged up 0.71%.

China’s cotton yarn trade lost ground both month-on-month and year-on-year in June. The first-half deficit has narrowed slightly from the five-month figure but stays deep in negative territory.

By grade, fine combed counts took the heaviest hit, mid-count yarns ticked up modestly, and coarser counts delivered standout gains, with one category doubling in volume.

Geographically, South and Southeast Asia remain the dominant outlets, though Pakistan and Bangladesh’s steep declines sit in sharp contrast to Vietnam’s strong rise and Cambodia’s small gain.
