Egypt’s Qantara West Zone lands $117mn Chinese textile investment

Zhejiang Jiansheng Group Co. Ltd, trading under the Jasan Group name is setting up a vertically integrated textile complex which includes a garment factory in the Qantara West Industrial Zone in Egypt.

At present, the zone is home to 54 ventures backed by investors hailing from nine different countries, representing combined capital of close to $1.54 billion, with the capacity to create 68,915 jobs.

Of this, textiles and ready-made clothing represent the dominant investment category, comprising 43 companies.

Spanning a plot of 300,000 square metres, Jasan will invest $117 million, financed entirely through the company’s own resources, and is set to roll out across three consecutive stages.

Once complete, the facility will bring together spinning and weaving operations alongside production lines for ready-to-wear apparel, sportswear, seamless garments, hosiery, trims and accessories.

Around 90% of capacity will be exported and the rest will be supplied in the Egyptian domestic market. The company will generate close to 6,000 direct positions upon reaching full capacity.

Zhang Maoyi, Chairman of Jasan Group, remarked that the firm’s choice to build its latest manufacturing hub in Egypt underscores the confidence it places in the nation’s future outlook and its appeal as an investment destination.

He observed that Egypt’s advantageous geographic position, together with its broad network of trade accords and its links to global markets, positions the country as a natural launchpad for the group’s wider regional ambitions and export-driven strategy.

Zhang further indicated that JASAN Group intends to roll out cutting-edge smart manufacturing solutions, automated processes, digitised management platforms, and eco-conscious production methods.

Beyond output, the venture is also expected to bolster employment figures and skills development, reinforcing the expansion of Egypt’s textile sector whilst strengthening the standing of its broader manufacturing base internationally.

“Qantara West Industrial Zone has become one of the standout achievements within SCZONE’s development portfolio,” Daily News Egypt reported.

Over a mere two-year span, the authority converted land once prone to flooding into a flourishing industrial hub drawing considerable interest from overseas investors.
