Bangladesh merchandise exports climbed 13.14% year-on-year to $4.43 billion in August, propelled by a rebound in garment shipments, data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) informed.
With this, exports across the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27 rose 5.43% to $9.16 billion, up from $8.69 billion during the July-August stretch a year earlier.
The readymade garment sector remained the principal driver of growth, with exports growing 13.92% year-on-year to $3.89 billion last month.
Both knitwear and woven garment shipments in August increased against the same month a year prior.
The growth was underpinned by firmer demand within major markets, greater buyer confidence in Bangladesh as a dependable sourcing destination and expanded production capacity, the EPB said.
The bureau likewise said climbing exports of higher-value products alongside efforts to diversify products and markets helped lift export earnings.
However, EPB data revealed that merchandise exports slipped 6.30% in August against the previous month. Export earnings stood at $4.72 billion in July.
The United States, Bangladesh’s largest single-country export market, logged 26.09% growth in August, whilst exports to the country climbed 11.90% across July-August.
The United Kingdom regained its standing as the second-largest export market, trailed by Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
Amongst emerging markets, exports to Türkiye rose by a massive 141.03%, whilst those to the South Korea grew 42.37% and those to Saudi Arabia increased 42.09%.
