Goa approves apparel manufacturing cluster for uniforms & safety wear

Date:

Goa’s cabinet has cleared a proposal from Brighter Ideas Production and Supplies Pvt Ltd to set up a clothing production cluster at Honda in Sattari taluka, North Goa.

The planned unit will make school uniforms, school satchels, waterproof wear, protective workwear and assorted institutional textile goods.

The firm intends to sell these lines to state bodies and public institutions, among them schools, police departments, hospitals and clinics, and municipal authorities.

Skill-building and training programmes will also form part of the venture.

The government sanctioned the lease of a state-owned Civil Supplies warehouse at Honda, measuring 416.16 square metres, to the company for its operations.

The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (Goa-IPB) had first endorsed the plan, proposing that an idle government storage facility be put to use for the project.

The Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, which runs 19 godowns across the state for the public distribution system, studied the plan and approved the lease since it was not used for day-to-day operations.

Under the proposal, the state-owned premises would be let to the company on a nomination basis. The Finance Department then advised that the matter be referred to the Council of Ministers for approval.
