Farmers, encouraged by the remunerative prices and better income realised during the current season, are expected to bring a larger area under cotton cultivation during the next crop year, which begins from July.
This was informed by Vinay Kotak, President, Cotton Association of India (CAI) and Atul Ganatra, Chairman, CAI Crop Committee in a statement released by CAI.
Based on reports received from various states, CAI expects that the area under cotton crop in the upcoming 2026-27 sowing season will increase by 7% over the ongoing cotton season.
The National Crop Committee of CAI estimated total pressings/crop for the 2025-26 season at 334 lakh bales of 170 kg each.
CAI sees imports for the 2025-26 season at 47 lakh bales, up 15% over the earlier season’s 41 lakh bales. Exports of cotton are expected to remain flat at 18 lakh bales.
The cotton body has projected domestic demand higher at 338 lakh bales, a growth of 7.6% year on year, while the surplus is also estimated higher at 103.59 lakh bales s against previous season’s 78.59 lakh bales.
