Karnataka unveils new Textile Policy. Targets Rs 20,000cr investments

Date:

Karnataka has unveiled its new Textile and Apparel Policy for 2026-2031, targeting Rs 20,000 crore of domestic and overseas investment across the state’s textile value chain within five years.

The framework also seeks to generate five lakh additional jobs in the sector, prioritising the Kalyana Karnataka region and smaller tier-2 and tier-3 urban centres.

The Cabinet has approved the policy, which was brought forward in line with the Chief Minister’s 100-day campaign programmes.

According to officials, special emphasis falls on 34 talukas, where units qualify for additional incentives and concessions under the policy, intended to draw fresh investment and create employment.

Silk yarn activities, including silk reeling and silk spinning, now sit within the scheme’s scope.

Other pillars include reinforcing regional manufacturing ecosystems, sharpening global competitiveness to lift exports, tightening market linkages, putting a broad skills-development framework in place, and building modern, state-of-the-art textile clusters.

The policy also targets handloom revival, the positioning of Geographical Indication (GI) products, the creation of a Centre of Excellence, and the adoption of sustainable practices.
