Vardhman Textiles cuts GHG emissions by 14% in fiscal 2026

Date:

Vardhman Textiles disclosed a 14% cut in combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for fiscal 2026 when compared with fiscal 2024 baseline year.

The company secured a 32% share of green energy across its overall energy mix during the year. This was revealed in a filing lodged with the stock exchanges.

Environmental Performance
Total energy consumption held steady at 9.017 million gigajoules (GJ) in fiscal 2026 aligning closely with the 8.973 million gigajoules logged in fiscal 2025. Nonetheless, the composition of this energy shifted markedly towards renewable sources.

Renewable energy consumption climbed from 2.030 million GJ in fiscal 2025 to 2.759 million GJ in fiscal 2026.

This uplift was driven by expanded solar installations, which reached 68 MWp, with plans to scale up further to 70 MWp.

The company additionally launched long-term open access projects, including a 30.5 MW hybrid wind-solar scheme in Madhya Pradesh and a 31.9 MWp solar scheme in Punjab.

Water Stewardship
Water stewardship metrics revealed improved efficiency. Total water withdrawal fell by roughly 20% to 7,541,325 kilolitres in fiscal 2026 from 9,434,753 kilolitres during its prior fiscal.

Consequently, water intensity per rupee of turnover dropped from 463.97 KL/Cr in fiscal 2025 to 272.60 KL/Cr in the reporting fiscal.

What the Figures Reveal
The gap between climbing renewable energy consumption and stable total energy use signals a successful fuel-switching strategy rather than an overall dip in energy demand.

Whilst total energy intake held firm at roughly 9 million GJ, the share of non-renewables slipped from 77% of the mix in fiscal 2025 to 69% in fiscal 2026.

This structural shift underpins the reported 14% fall in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions, notwithstanding consistent operational output levels reflected within the turnover-adjusted intensity metrics.

Social and Governance Metrics
Vardhman Textiles employs a workforce numbering 28,192 individuals, comprising 3,636 employees and 24,556 workers.

Women make up 35% of the total workforce, including 40% of permanent workers. The company has set a target of achieving 45% overall gender diversity by 2030.

Safety performance
“The Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) for workers fell from 3.59 in fiscal to 1.32 in the fiscal under review,” ScanX reported.

However, the report disclosed two fatalities amongst workers in fiscal 2026, against none during the previous fiscal.

Supply chain sustainability efforts encompassed sourcing 33.6% of primary raw materials sustainably. The company trained over 14,107 farmers on sustainable practices under its Better Cotton Initiative partnership.

Additionally, 90% of packaging adopted was sustainable, chiefly paper-based materials sourced from recycled content or agro-waste.
