In the first four months of the current year, imports of garments by the European Union (EU) declined 10.4% from €31 billion to €27.8 billion in the same months of the previous year.
Among various countries, between January and April 2025, Chinese apparel exports to the EU fell 4.6% to €7.95 billion from €8.34 billion from a year ago period.
During the period under review, Bangladesh witnessed the biggest decline as it exported clothing totaling to €6.09 billion to the EU countries, down 19.4% year on year from €7.55 billion.
Turkey’s garment exports stood at €2.42 billion in the review period as against €2.90 billion in the first four months of 2025, down 16.9%.
Exports from India stood at €1.64 billion, down from €1.87 billion in the months between January and April 2025, or a drop of 12.1%.
According to data released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, Vietnams’ garment shipments to the EU held nearly steady at €1.38 billion, a slip of 0.7% from €1.37 billion in the same months of 2025.
Clothing exports from Pakistan also dipped 17.9% to €1.09 billion from €1.33 billion, while those from Cambodia also fell 12.1% €1.28 billion from €1.45 billion.
