Two of Bangladesh’s foremost textile and apparel industry bodies have formalised a partnership aimed at propelling the nation towards its ambitious $100 billion export target for the ready-made garment sector.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to stage a Bangladesh International Textile and Apparel Machinery Exhibition (BITMA), scheduled to take place this December.
Representing their respective bodies, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu and BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell put pen to paper on the agreement, which paves the way for closer collaboration between the two influential trade groups.
The partnership and forthcoming trade fair mark a pivotal moment in efforts to build a more robust, forward-thinking and eco-conscious platform for the country’s textile and garment industries.
The exhibition will showcase cutting-edge machinery alongside artificial intelligence applications, emerging fashion trends, and opportunities for networking and technology transfer.
Additional priorities include workforce skills development, sustainability-focused initiatives, attracting fresh investment, and forging international partnerships—all geared towards positioning Bangladesh as a leading global centre for sustainable textile and apparel production.
Addressing attendees, BGMEA chief Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu acknowledged that friction sometimes surfaces between garment manufacturers and textile producers yet, stressed that both camps are ultimately working towards a shared ambition.
