Textile and garment exports from Jammu and Kashmir continued to grow in the third consecutive year and surpassed Rs 850 crore during fiscal 2025-26.
Textile and apparel exports rose from Rs 734.6 crore in 2023-24, to Rs781.2 crore in 2024-25, and on to Rs 856.9 crore in 2025-26 — underscoring the region’s growing footprint in international markets.
Employment within the textile and apparel industry in the Union Territory also continues to build momentum, now sustaining livelihoods for more than 230,000 workers.
The sector’s headcount rose from 1,96,602 in 2021-22 to 2,26,668 the following year, before reaching 2,31,305 by 2023-24 — a trajectory the Textiles Ministry described as consistent and upward.
“Responding to a written query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita outlined the several central schemes underpinning the region’s textile ecosystem,” Kashmir Life reported.
These include the National Handloom Development Programme, the National Handicrafts Development Programme, Silk Samagra-2, the SAMARTH scheme, the Integrated Wool Development Programme, and the National Technical Textiles Mission — together forming the backbone of government support for the sector.
Employment data, drawn from the Annual Survey of Industries alongside the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises, paints an encouraging picture of workforce expansion in J&K.
