Cotlook has raised its forecast of world global cotton output in the 2026-27 marketing year by 79,000 tons in May, to 25.45 million tons.
This has been done on reports of projected higher cotton production in the US and Turkey which were partially offset by a reduction in Pakistan.
Cotton consumption figures for 2026-27 have been increased by 218,000 tons to 26.11 million, attributed to higher estimates for Bangladesh, Vietnam and India.
This would result in a reduction of global stocks by the end of the next marketing year of 657,000 tons.
For the ongoing cotton marketing year, global output is projected higher by 96,000 tons as larger figures for Brazil and smaller producing countries more than offset a decline for the African Franc Zone.
For the current marketing year, consumption was meanwhile raised by 332,000 tons and the estimated increase to global stock levels by August 31, 2026, has narrowed to 342,000 tons.
