Uzbek textile & garments sector aims for $4bn exports in 2026

Date:

Uzbekistan’s textile and garment exports reached $2.6 billion in 2025. The Uzbek government has now targeted exports from the sector to reach $4 billion in 2026 and further grow to $4.5 billion by 2027.

The country which was once a major exporter of cotton is now fully consuming the cotton grown in the country by converting them into value added products like yarns, garments, home textiles, etc.

The government has initiated and approved a two-year program for expansion of the textile and apparel industry.

The program seeks to attract about $4.7 billion in foreign investment over the next two years to modernise existing machinery and also create 80,000 new jobs.

A key driver of growth in the textile and clothing sector will be sales through global ecommerce platforms and increase the sales value from $700 million to $1 billion over the next two years.

The program seeks to introduce lean manufacturing systems in factories and to reduce energy costs, factories will be offered loans at subsidized rates to enable them to set up solar power plants.

The Uzbek government will also open representative offices in various countries like Germany, US, China, Turkey, etc, which will particularly promote Uzbek textiles and garments among local brands.

Loans and other benefits will be provided to Uzbek factories by dividing them into various categories based on their financial condition to ensure that loans are given to the worthy companies.
